Daily Arithmetic Starter System – KS2 Bundle

Build arithmetic fluency across KS2 – 10 questions at a time.

The KS2 Daily Arithmetic Starter Bundle gives teachers a simple and consistent approach to developing arithmetic fluency throughout Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Pupils complete 10 carefully selected arithmetic questions each day, 4 days a week. Teachers can use them for morning work, maths lesson starters, retrieval practice or a quick daily arithmetic activity.

However, this is much more than a collection of arithmetic questions. We have carefully mapped the content to create clear progression throughout KS2.

At the beginning of each year group, pupils revisit important arithmetic skills from previous years. Then, as they encounter new learning in their maths lessons, the Daily Arithmetic Starter gradually introduces this content into the questions.

Importantly, earlier skills don’t disappear. Previously taught content continues to appear alongside new learning. Therefore, pupils regularly retrieve and practise essential arithmetic knowledge as they move through KS2.

As the year progresses, the balance gradually shifts towards current year-group content. As a result, pupils build fluency with new learning while continuing to strengthen the foundations that support it.

This carefully planned progression runs from Year 3 through to Year 6, giving schools a consistent approach to daily arithmetic practice across the whole of KS2.

The four-day structure also gives teachers flexibility. For example, teachers can use the fifth day for a longer arithmetic assessment, consolidation or intervention. Alternatively, they can choose a specific focus based on the needs of their class.
