Are you a parent or educator wondering how to teach times tables? Maybe your child is mixing up their 8 x 7 and their 9 x 6 multiplication facts. Andrew Jennings has you covered with a handy and practical guide to ensuring your student becomes a skilled times table ninja!
Every times table up to 12 is introduced with the facts plus a few jokes! Then readers are shown arrays of the times table for both multiplication and, importantly, division as well. Tricks for learning the facts are given. Did you know that for any multiple of 3, the sum of its digits equals 3, 6 or 9? And that the last digit of the 8 times table follows the pattern, 8, 6, 4, 2, 0 and so on. There are questions that you can answer to test your understanding. There’s also a handy number square showing visually what the times table looks like. The table is displayed up to x20 showing that children can extend their understanding. There’s also an ‘If You Know…’ section. The idea in Maths is that you can use what you know to work out what you don’t know yet. Reference is made to square numbers and the super 16 facts that are notoriously tricky to remember! I’m looking at you 7 x 8! There’s a quick-fire quiz for each timetable, plus Andrew’s ideas to support learning the tables. Andrea

An excellent guide for my 8 year old. It gives some great tips and support, and she has enjoyed reading through at her own pace. Helen
